Revolution in Iran made Homa leave and move to New York in February 1979.

Homa came to America with her 3 year old son. It was not possible for her to continue her education in the United States. That is why she turned to her other talent; sewing.  After a while she started to design clothing. You can see some of her design in the Photo Gallery section of this site.

For 13 years she continued designing.  Her son had grown up. It was time for her to start a job in a different work environment.

In 1992 she started to work at Bergdorf Goodman, one of the most prestigious high end fashion department stores.  She held the position of alterations manager till 1999.

In this position she was responsible for the fitting and alterations of a $200 million women’s apparel business.  She narrated and produced training videos for fitters and tailors as well as conducted “How to Sell Proper Fitting Garment” training seminars for all associates.  She managed the new vendor quality test program, and directed the vendor partnership program which resulted in quality and fit improvements.  Homa spearheaded the catalogue merchandise quality assurance program.  Her artistic talent was not hindered and she designed and produced a range of exclusive Bergdorf Goodman bridal accessories including headpieces, veils and tiaras.

Between 1997 and 1999 her designs were displayed in the windows for Christmas Holidays.

She remembers:

“I have very good memories from this fabulous company. I never forget that one day I was sitting behind my desk and was thinking how I would I be able to pay the tuition for my son? My boss walked to my office and was surprised that I looked worried. He asked the reason and I told him the truth. He left and after a while they called me from his boss’s office. When I met them I was told that they agreed to give me an increase of $15 thousand dollars.

“In this company I was working with amazing talented and experienced people who respected me a lot which made me do everything in my capacity for the improvement of the business.”

She talks about her relations with the great colleagues she had at this company.

“After all these years we are still friends and some play an important role in my life.  I want to mention some of them:

Carl Barbato, Vice President of Stores who is with David Yurman now. He is one of my best and loyal friends. I love him like my own son and he calls me mom. He is very smart and extremely talented.

Joseph Boitano, Executive Vice President of Merchandizing one of the most talented in fashion world. At the moment he is with Saks Fifth Avenue as Senior Vice President & General Merchandise Manager.

Dawn Mellow, President of the company. She is one of the most important figures and well known Icons in the world of fashion. She is retired and has her own Consultant firm.

Cheryl Beal, Store General Manager. She has her Consultant firm now.

I have so many friends from Bergdorf Goodman, if I write about all of them it will take many pages.”

In 2008, Homa became the Director of Alterations at Lord & Taylor, the oldest upscale luxury department store chain in America, founded in 1826.  She is responsible for directing all financial and workroom productivity for 46 stores in the United States.

In this position she was responsible for the productivity and financial performance of all alterations departments within the Georgio Armani and Emporio Armani locations in the US. She conducted product knowledge and fit seminars on a seasonal basis and devised a fitter’s manual for altering men’s and women’s merchandise. After September 11, in order to cut the cost for Emporio Armani alterations, she created a certificate program for sales associates a one-on-one training which awarded them certificates upon successful completion.  She established initiatives for all retail environments. She created alterations standards, policies and procedures and trained both alterations and sales staff on an ongoing basis. Homa was able to devise a company–wide method of tracking productivity. From time to time she provided feedback to the Milan-based design team on fit and quality.

She talks of great memories of an exceptionally talented team in this company:
